DIESEL REPAIR
A diesel that is treated like a gas engine gets expensive fast
Diesels run injection pressures measured in tens of thousands of PSI, put their air through a turbocharger, and clean their exhaust with a filter and a dosing system that has to regenerate itself on a schedule. None of that exists on a gas engine, and none of it is diagnosed the same way. A shop that mostly does gas work will usually reach for parts.
Heat and dust are what wear diesels out in this part of Arizona. Summer temperatures push cooling and charge-air systems hard, and desert dust loads air filters far faster than the maintenance schedule assumes — which is the single most common cause of the low-power complaints we see on trucks that have been working out on unpaved sites.

WHEN TO COME IN
Signs your diesel needs attention
On a diesel these are early warnings. The repairs behind them are not small if you wait.
◑
Hard starting, especially cold
Glow plugs, low fuel pressure or injector leak-off. Cranking it longer is not the answer.
◉
Black or grey smoke under load
Too much fuel or not enough air — injectors, turbo, boost leak or an air filter full of desert dust.
◍
Down on power or in limp mode
The computer protecting the engine. It has a reason, and the codes will tell us what it is.
◎
Regeneration warnings or a DPF light
The filter cannot clean itself. Ignored long enough, this becomes a very expensive part.
◐
Whistling or whining that rises with boost
Turbocharger or a boost leak. Worth catching before the turbo lets go.
◈
Fuel in the oil or rising oil level
Injector or fuel-system leakage into the crankcase. Stop driving and call us.

QUESTIONS WE GET EVERY WEEK
Diesel repair FAQ
What diesels do you work on?
Light-duty diesel pickups and the vans and work trucks small businesses run day to day. Call with your year and engine and we will tell you straight away whether it is a job for us.
Will you delete my DPF or emissions equipment?
No. Removing or disabling emissions equipment is illegal on a road vehicle and it fails the state inspection, so it is not something we do. We diagnose and repair after-treatment faults so the system works as it is supposed to.
Why does my truck keep going into regeneration?
Frequent regens usually mean the filter is loading faster than it should — short trips that never let it complete a cycle, a fuel or injector fault making soot, or a sensor giving the computer bad information. Repeated interrupted regens are their own problem, and we look at all of it.
Do you service diesel fuel systems?
Yes — fuel filters and water separators, pressure and return-flow testing, injector diagnosis and replacement, and lift pump work. Contaminated fuel is worth catching early; it takes injectors with it.
How often does a diesel need servicing here?
Treat Phoenix as severe duty. Heat and dust shorten oil and air filter life, and desert driving loads an air filter far faster than a highway commute. We will set an interval that matches how the truck is actually used.
Do you work on fleets of diesel trucks?
Yes — see our fleet services page. Scheduled maintenance, consolidated invoicing and keeping downtime predictable is a large part of what we do for local businesses.
